The best friend I could ever have.

As I write these entries, I always come up with these crazy analogies and experiences on the fly, so just bare with me!

Every other Sunday morning I teach Sunday school, and a few weeks ago, I had to teach my preschoolers about David and Jonathan in the Bible. Basically, if you don't know, these two Old Testament characters were best friends. Even when Jonathan's father, who was the king, was trying to kill David, Jonathan protected him and saved him from the anger of his father. That's a pretty legitimate friendship if he was willing to take his side over his father's, when his father ruled the land!

Then we had to have the kids make crafts for their best friends. It really got me thinking... and then it really got me lonely. I don't have a significant other OR best friend right now. BUT do I think this is on purpose? Absolutely! I think God took out all the distractions in my life in order to help me focus and re-evaluate.

Today is the official FOURTH week of my boy fast. It's already going by so fast! During these past 3 weeks, I've played at coffeehouses, went to Longwood Gardens, watched movies with friends, went out to eat, had bonfires, made movies with my cousins, and had a crazy Thanksgiving weekend with my family. It really HAS made me realize how grateful I am to have people in my life that I don't have to try to force into loving me; they already do!

This may be a bit controversial to admit, but sometimes I try to force or manipulate people into liking me. I think a lot of us do that more than we'd like to admit, but we just never say anything! Well, seeing as I'm honest and open here, I do appreciate having the approval of other people. However, I get WAY too caught up in that, and it often causes issues with my dependence on God.

It's often difficult for us to remember we have all we need in God. I know, it might sound cheesy for me to say, "Jesus is my best friend!!!" But really.. the world, relationships, friendships, etc, offer us a temporary fulfillment that we think is enough for us to chase after. EXCEPT we end up flat on our faces. My GOD has a love that no man will ever be able to give me. This is what I constantly need to focus on during this fast.

There are a few books I'm going to start reading soon, so I will be posting my thoughts on those, soon, as well, but for now, here are some Scripture passages that show how much we are LOVED more than any person on Earth here can fathom:

Taken from "Intimate Love Letter from God" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEfJpJ1lhQc]

My Child,

You may not know me, but I know everything about you. (Psalm 139:1)

I am familiar with all of you ways. (Psalm 139:3)

I chose YOU when I planned creation. (Ephesians 1:11-12)

You were NOT a mistake. (Psalm 139:15)

It is my desire to lavish my love on you. (1 John 3:1)

For I am your provider, and I meet all of your needs. (Matthew 6:31-33)

I love you with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)

I will never stop doing good to you. (Jeremiah 32:40)

For you are my treasured possession. (Exodus 19:5)

I want to show you great and marvelous things. (Jeremiah 33:3)

I am able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

For I am your GREATEST encourager. (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17)

I am also the Father who comforts you in all of your troubles. (1 Corinthians 1:3-4)

When you are broken-hearted, I am close to you. (Psalm 34:18)

I have carried you close to my heart. (Isaiah 40:11)

I will wipe away every tear from your eyes, and I will take away all the pain you have suffered on this Earth. (Revelation 21:4)

I gave up everything that I loved that I might gain your love. (Romans 8:32)

Will you be my child?

Love, God

So, I may not have a best friend, but what best friend or boyfriend can do all that I mentioned above? Best friends and boyfriends are great, but NONE can compare to the love of God. He is the BEST friend I could ever have.
