My Ecuador Bucket List

My Ecuador Bucket List
6/14/12

After my last post, I stayed pretty late at Santiago’s house and hung out with his brothers and cousin. We listened to Justin Bieber, danced, and laughed. It was quite the good time! However, we got home kind of late, so I had to be quiet making a PB&J while Santiago ate his favorite and my least-favorite, rice.

Yesterday Santiago came over around 2pm, and we watched “I Am Legend”. I still don’t know how I feel about that movie. I feel like almost every movie Will Smith is in he is this intense actor going through something sad or scary. He’s probably one of my favorite actors, but that movie was sad!

After that we started walking to catch the bus to another town to get pizza. We saw my favorite gringa, Madeline, while walking, and so we talked with her and the other interns for a bit before we took the bus and got pizza (again)!

I ordered the same thing, but Santiago got a hamburger with fries so we could share. It was delicious. After eating the pizza, we bought ice cream at a store then put more money in my phone.

When we came back, we watched “Horton Hears a Who”, which, of course, was adorable. Then Santiago left.

This morning I was awoken by the sounds of los gemelos (the twins) singing to Spanish music. I woke up at 8:30 just to do my laundry and then go back to sleep. While trying to do this, kids kept banging on the door over and over every 30 seconds for at least twenty minutes. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I asked the twins to tell them to stop, and they did.

As soon as they stopped, Santiago came in the door, and I was so exhausted. Yet I got ready and ate some macaroni. We walked to Santiago’s house to hang out, and that is currently what I’m doing right now. All day I have been hanging out at Santiago’s house.

At the current moment Wilmar, Santiago’s brother, is doing something with my hair. Apparently he made a flower in my hair or something.

So this entry isn’t very interesting because I haven’t had much time to write, but I promise you better adventures. My mom keeps saying, “Don’t waste your time there”, but I don’t waste any minute of being here. Although I dearly miss my home food, I love being in this beautiful country. I have slipped on my Spanish, but I hope to take some Spanish classes with my wonderful friend here. I also hope to ride a horse (next month), go see Men in Black (tomorrow, hopefully!), sing songs in church (this Sunday), attend the boys’ graduation (in a few weeks), go to my first official Ecuadorian party (this Saturday), and climb a mountain (yeah, Mom, that’s not happening). Yup, that’s my Ecuador bucket list!

¡Gracias, Dios!
